Letters Email is a strange thing. Of course, I'm not talking about the nature of the protocol (with which I have nothing but the deepest respect); rather, I am talking about my email. Take yesterday, for example. Spread between my three email accounts (personal, phreaker, and blackout, as I've lovingly christened them... yes, we really *are* that close) I recieved twenty-seven new messages. Impressive, you might think. Until, that is, you realise that twenty-two were from bugtraq, a further three came courtesy of ISN, and one was from the good folks at Wired. For those who spent the duration of their maths lessons spitting soggies at the geek in front, that totals twenty-six messages. So, I got twenty-seven messages, all but one of which were courtesy of my good friend majordomo (around these parts, we call him domey.) From this we can deduce two things: • I only got one message written specifically for me (this, of course, has all sorts of connotations, but I choose not to believe that nobody likes me.) • I have pet names for automated mailing lists. I am one sick puppy. But why am I telling you this? Well, to be honest, I'm hoping that this touching display of honesty will tug your heartstrings to such an extent that you will feel brutally sorry for me, and send me something for the letters page just to make me feel better. So please, take the example shown by the following good people, and cheer me up. ------- Subject: Hi From: Macboy To: jambo@blackout.org I was just wondering if you would add a link to my site, it brand new, I put it up yesterday, and it has about 20mb worth of files. heres the address:http://www.angelfire.com/al/applescript thanks, Macboy [ As some of the more eagle-eyed readers will have noticed, we've actually stopped the links chapter, as it was simply getting too big. The ad's here though :) ] ------- Subject: request: MacICQ Happle article From: Kresmoi M. To: jambo@blackout.org Could you please include in a happle issue an article on MacICQ Spoofing, or some links to tools that can be used? I have been looking for a long time for something like that, and so far I have found very little. If you could help me out, that'd be great. thanks. Kres [ A few months back, as I recall, a bug was discovered in the ICQ servers whereby entering a password longer than eight characters would allow you to login as any user. However, the servers have been patched since then, and I am unaware of any other ICQ spoofing techniques. If any of our readers know more, get in touch. ] ------- Subject: The old format??? From: MacRat To: Jambo@blackout.org [ From the Happle website's download page ] "Here you can download all the issues of Happle thus far. The files have been compressed using Stuffit (the old format) and then encoded in binhex4." IT SHOULD READ: "Here you can download all the issues of Happle thus far. The files have been compressed using Stuffit 3 and then encoded in binhex4." There are three formats of the Stuffit compression. there is the 1.x then the 3.x then finally the recent 5.x 1.x was the first one. I have it. It handles multiple files, unlike its predecessor, PackIt. 2.x dropped PackIt support, and revamped the 1.x engine to work faster. 3.x introduced multilevel archiving, meaning folders, and password saving option. 3.5 made the password option to use encryption. 4.x was just an OS-level upgrade to keep it compatible with System 7.5 Native Power PC code was created. 4.5 beefed up the speeds. 5.x completely reworks it. The option to create the older Stuffit formats have been removed, a new compression engine makes files up to 40% smaller than 3.x formats, [ Thanks, the offending page has been updated. I didn't realise stuffit had such a rich history :) ] ------- Subject: rejects... From: The Marauder To: jambo@blackout.org werd it up______ i am inquiring about any articles you rejected and arent gonna use in future issues of happle... could you hook me up w/them so i could talk to the authors and see if they would be willing to publish in _midnight raid_ iss3? lates, -the "picking up happle's trash" marauder Raid3d. [ Welp, I'll see what I can do. Seriously, though, if any of you have written a paper that you feel wouldn't look right in Happle (or if you just don't like me) I urge you to consider submitting to the midnight raid. It's a more tongue-in-cheek magazine which concentrates on humour rather than technical articles. Take a look for yourself at hotline://raid3d.dhs.org ] ------- [ This is a bloody long letter, so I'll insert my comments as it progresses. ] Subject: Articles From: Phat To: Jambo@blackout.org Dear Jambo, Hey. Nice Magazine. The thing I do not get is that it is like a repeat of HackAddict. Though it might be like this I am not going to put it down because HackAddict is the Best E-Zine ever made in the world. [ Agreed, Hackaddict was a great zine. I would like to point out, however, that we are not a 'repeat'. Take us on face value if you must, but please don't condemn us as a cheap imitation. ] I can get you a article to show people how to make easy webpages and graphics. I can also show people how to get free internet access with a Fake CC# easily through AOL w/a spoofed ip or a Cable Modem. I think you guys already covered spoofing so I am not going to explain that cause I am not really good at spoofing though I'll recomend bounce bar spoofer and if you wish include the file. [ An article on web graphics sounds very interesting. As for the article detailing credit fraud.. thanks but no thanks. Whilst I'm sure you don't want to hear me preaching about crime, suffice it to say I do not agree with credit card fraud. I also fail to see how it has anything to do with a magazine detailing macintosh security. Finally, if you have a cable modem, or an internet connection already (which would be needed to establish a fake IP,) why would you want to use AOL? And, technically, bouncing through wingates is *not* spoofing :) ] I'll just show them easy basics in graphic making and webpage making finding utils submissions everything I have it all setup. I used to be Phat from Phatz Backup . My server is coming back up if you used to go there it will be called phatz backup. I made a good webpage in mine and others opinions with like 200 users/day. I'll show them how to do that step by step its up to you guys. I think what you are doing is great though... Awsome. How did you get the webspace? Do me a favor I have tried mailing TT like 8 times and never got responses. Tell him I am legit and want to make a Hacking / Warez server if he can lend me 45 megz of webspace tell him I'll advertise for him for free! [ I suspect you mean TTS. Anyway, he offered me the space, and possibly the reason he hasn't gotten back to you is that he doesn't want to have his webspace taken away from him. Running a warez website is a very bad idea. Am I the only one who thinks seeing 'legit' and 'warez' in the same sentence is something of an oxymoron? ] Back to the Website making, I am going to show them advanced also requiring about 3 pages. Its up to you if you want me to show them, whatever but I want others to pop up and start doing the same thing you guys are doing. I'll also show them the advantages of knowing HTML. [ Sounds great. ] Sincerely, Phat ------- Subject: No Subject From: JHall98058@aol.com To: jambo@blackout.org Just downloaded Cubase VST 4.0 for the Mac and cannot get it to work.... [ That's a shame. So all that hard work you put in stealing copyrighted software was for nothing? ] Can you tell me what to do my friends... or if it even works..... [ Friends? First of all, I (as far as I am aware) am a single entity.. the plural doesn't really apply. Secondly, I doubt the publishers would release a program that doesn't work. I'm sure buying a copy would do the trick. ] I cannot get the crck to work it keeps asking for the original diskette so I put the crack on to a floppy disk and called the disk cubas 4.0 Now it asks for the serial number...... [ Perhaps it doesn't work because you missed the 'e'? Regardless, I am frankly perplexed as to why you would want to send me this letter. I do not advocate software piracy. If you're going to use this software, pay for it. ] Bye the way from what i have seen your site is fine [ Thank you yes, from what I've seen it seems alright as well. Your concern for its wellbeing is touching. ] Contact jhall98508@aol.com ------- Subject: Worthwhile Website From: Zectar, To: Jambo@blackout.org Hay The magazine rocks (in a non ass licking way :o) In the links section you list loads of smart web sites of interest to the underground Mac community, and I thought that this site deserves a place there... http://zectar.cjb.net Thanks a lot Zectar P.S. Your Ezine's English, right? [ Actually, no it's not. The zine was founded by an American, and is now edited by a Scotsman. As for your link, we've actually stopped the links chapter, but i've stuck it in here :) ] ------- Subject: Link From: GAlbert615@aol.com To: jambo@macfreak.com Hackintosh News Desk http://int0r.net/dailynews [ Yeah, this one's worth checking out folks. ] ------- Subject: Hack the HL Servers! From: Buzzable Bunny, henry.chin@btinternet.com To: jambo@blackout.org What do you think is the best way? Upload Fuctwick's trojan? DO the c.lnk thing? blablabla anything else? advice Plz thanks Bye Buzzable Bunny [ Indeed... Anyway, Happle has produced enough hotline hacking papers to last a lifetime. I'm sure a casual flick through our back issues will provide the information you need. And it's Fuct Kiwi, not Fuctwick :) ] ------- Subject: a note of thanks From: + +, mz_informed@my-dejanews.com To: Jambo, Jambo@blackout.org Jambo Found your HL server thru alt.hackintosh @ deja-news thru the elite Mike. Thanks for offering your cool Happle zine. best wishes! Am pretty clueless about irc bit after some studying hope to see you at irc.slacknet.org/#hackintosh. check out my site if you get a minute at http://home.earthlink.net/~imfalse/ Peace mz_imformed [ Yet another link.. hmm, maybe we should reinstate the links chapter? Anyway, cheers for the praise.. it's the reason I waste my time on this shit :) ] ------- Subject: Open Question to the readers From: Da Hitman, hitman@ductape.net To: Jambo@blackout.org Okay, this is what me and my boi digitr0nix from Phreaks of Nature sorta figured out that the prefix for most vmbs for iyd are 55565(is this only in our area?)The last 4 numbers might be randomly generated. If you wanna try to brute force it dial 800-595-4999, if you figure out anything mail me at hitman@ductape.net or maybe jambo.
